Back At The Start
So here I am,
Back at the start.
I got so far,
I gave her my heart.
She smiled at me.
She took my hand.
We knew it was time,
To take a stand.
We went together,
Like sunglasses and a knit hat.
It was all we needed.
We were all that.
It was an amazing time.
No matter what hour or where.
Is it wrong to still feel it?
Is it wrong to still care?
I had all that I needed.
My dreams had come true.
Looking out the window,
I loved my view.
At the peak of my happiness,
When it settled in my brain.
She turned around,
Facing a desert of pain.
When I heard those words together.
It made a horrible shrine.
That rattled through my eardrums,
And sent chills down my spine.
I was not enough.
She needed something more.
My heart was left thumping,
broken on the floor.
She left me speechless,
Alone in the night.
Not a thought to claim,
Not a word in sight.
I found my way back.
Though not too smart.
So now I sit and wonder,
Back here, at the start.
